About the Role

The Strategic Partnerships Director will help establish and scale the SP Group by supporting and leading many aspects of our strategic partnerships and M&A work. Both global in scope and spanning all functions and Remitly businesses, the responsibilities include growth idea generation, opportunity sourcing, business case development, diligence process leadership, integration support. More broadly, the Director will have a high level of visibility within Remitly’s management team and will contribute insights to Remitly’s company strategy, be a trusted thought partner to our business units, and bring best practices that build Remitly’s world-class reputation. Externally, the Director will interact directly with target company leaders for both M&A and commercial opportunities spanning Remitly’s business and platform - in addition to entrepreneurs, investment banks, investors and advisors. 


What You’ll Do

  • Be an expert on Remitly’s business and customers, well as the consumer financial services market, ecosystem of players & competitors, business models and key innovation areas 
  • Determine strategic initiatives to prioritize, guide build/buy/partner decisions,  identify M&A/SP opportunities and be a thought leader around “out of the box opportunities”
  • Efficiently qualify partner/buy opportunities considering company strategy, product strategy and financial requirements and do so in conjunction with business & functional partners
  • Leverage personal, company and industry networks/contacts to proactively identify and engage prospective targets or partners
  • Build and deliver highly compelling business cases around key initiatives, to gain organizational support and resourcing
  • Lead M&A or SP initiatives holistically, from idea through integration/launch, and provide critical guidance to the virtual, cross-functional teams that support them
  • Develop new business around strategic partners and assist in the strategic relationship management of these partners
  • Support the VP and leader of the SP Group in building the foundational components of the M&A and SP functions


Who You Are

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate development/M&A (ideal), private equity or top tier investment bank - ideally in consumer tech and financial services. Strategic business development or similar commercial deal experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated track record of leading all parts of the end-to-end M&A process for both large and small M&A transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures and investments
  • Demonstrated strong and innovative analytical capabilities in terms of building P&Ls/pro-forma financial models, using advanced valuation methodologies and running analyses on operational metrics
  • Possess a strong strategic perspective, ROI focus, and business judgment; ability to support recommendations with solid rationale backed by evidence and data
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to lead virtual, cross-functional teams and develop trusted relationships with key leaders
  • Comfortable working in a startup environment, building a new function, and willing to take on a wide variety of responsibilities as the group and Remitly scale
  • Engaging, highly credible presence and style; comfortable presenting to large and small groups, C-level executives
  • Strong communication skills – being a clear and convincing communicator through written, graphical and verbal means
  • Global businessperson, with experience in multiple countries and with both startups and large corporations
  • Demonstrate determination and resilience in the face of obstacles or challenges, and execute with grace
  • Embody the highest degree of integrity, trustworthiness as well as Remitly’s mission and values
  • Proven team-player with a reputation for great people management and development; participation and achievement in team-based sports/activities a strong plus
  • BS/BA required, MBA from top school highly desirable
