About the Role:

As the Engineering Manager of Global Money Movement's (GMM) Command & Control Platform squad, you will continue to expand the team, lead the technical strategy, and be an important product strategy partner for 3 core domains:

  • Global Money Movement Configuration & Management: GMM's Tooling Platform allows for zero-code command and control configuration across all Money Movement systems.
  • Global Money Movement Validation: GMM's Validation Platform provides multi-product access to a cutting-edge suite of validation capabilities and data, representing Remitly's entire global network of financial partner integrations.
  • Global Money Movement Transaction Requirements: GMM's Transaction Requirements Platform consolidates multi-dimensional transaction requirements to be applied at global scale for our ever-changing network of financial partners, across all financial products and customer segments.

To succeed in this role, you should enjoy being in a startup environment and working hands-on with others across the company. You know how to make good short and long-term trade-offs to enable a quick test-and-learn cycle while not sacrificing performance and user experience. You have the desire to continuously improve and grow your own technical skills and scope or influence. You will partner with product and business leadership to explain the roadmap for your team charters. You will hire and grow multiple engineers to build your vision. You will report to the Engineering Manager of Global Network Experience as part of the Global Money Movement organization.

You Will:

  • Provide technical leadership and lead complex, long-term, cross-team engineering efforts.
  • Manage the quality of your team's quality and output
  • Mentor or facilitate mentorship for junior engineers on your team
  • Partner with product managers to understand requirements, lead engineers who translate them into a roadmap, and ensure the engineering team delivers the expected outcome.
  • Set the technical vision for the integration platform team and partner with engineers of other teams to set a broader technical vision
  • Drive the planning and execution, including quarterly objective definition, resource allocation, and re-prioritization when necessary
  • You explain the options and tradeoffs between schedule, features, and quality across interdependent systems, and make sound technical decisions
  • Deploy your expertise in technical writing, distributed systems architecture, coding, and software development processes to achieve amazing things for the team.
  • Be a role model in upholding Remitly's cultural values and use them as a framework to mentor other engineers across the company to achieve their full potential.
  • Help set and hire against a high engineering talent bar for the team.
  • Advocate for the engineering team on a company-wide audience.

You Have:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Typically 8+ years of experience, including:
  • Typically 1-3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Typically 1-3 years of experience leading core engineering efforts / technical teams / distributed teams
  • Experience recruiting engineers including strategy, sourcing, structuring interview loops, interviewing, and closing candidates
  • Experience developing reliable and scalable apps or services on a public cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Experience as an engineer building customer-facing products
  • Experience with version control systems like GitHub / GitLab and developing Git branching approaches
  • Experience defining and influencing technical designs and processes across a team.
  • An understanding of software development practices, system design, software design patterns, and algorithms.
  • Experience with a relational database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
  • Familiarity with technologies used in the project (one or more) Java, JavaScript, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, PHP, SQL and NoSQL databases, AWS.
  • Experience working with teams shipping full-stack features or products, is a nice bonus

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is $148,000-$185,000. In Canada, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
