Senior Financial Crimes Intelligence Analyst
Seattle, WA, United States of America
Category: Compliance
Job ID: R_106996
Job Type: Regular
Job Description:
At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we’ve tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it’s supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we’re not just here to move money— we’re here to move our global customers forward.
We’re looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that’s you and you’re ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.
About the Role:
You will carry the casework and produce the intelligence that defends Remitly against the most serious types of financial crime: human trafficking and forced labor, sanctions evasion, terrorist financing, transnational fraud, and professional money laundering.
The role has three parts. You will work complex, sensitive, and novel cases end to end. You will run proactive intelligence work that develops the typologies behind those cases into detection logic. And you will oversee how that detection performs in the hands of the global operations team, confirming that high risk typology scenarios are producing the investigative outcomes they were built to produce. This is a matrixed mandate: you provide subject matter direction and quality oversight to investigators who report through global operations.
What You'll Do:
- Casework
- Work complex, high severity, and novel cases end to end, including matters escalated from global operations, referred by partner teams, or generated by your own proactive work.
- Build analytic conclusions from limited initial indicators and expand from a single actor to the network around them.
- Document investigative work and reporting decisions to a standard that holds up under examination, audit, and litigation.
- Escalate sensitive and time-critical findings promptly, with the context needed for a decision.
- Intelligence and typology development
- Run proactive investigations and thematic reviews into high risk typologies, synthesizing internal transaction and customer data with law enforcement input, legal process material, open source research, and commercial intelligence.
- Query and analyze large transaction data sets directly to identify patterns, structures, and networks existing monitoring does not surface.
- Develop typology characteristics into operational detection requirements, and support Transaction Monitoring and Data Science partners in building, tuning, testing, and validating the resulting scenarios.
- Produce written assessments and briefings that state findings clearly, separate evidence from inference, and convey confidence levels honestly when information is incomplete or unreliable.
- Own a defined threat portfolio and become the internal reference point for it.
- Detection effectiveness oversight
- Monitor high risk typology scenarios in production and assess whether they yield the intended outcomes: correct escalations, defensible dispositions, and reporting that reflects the underlying typology rather than surface activity.
- Review global operations casework against high risk typology scenarios, identify where investigative treatment diverges from intent, and drive correction through feedback, guidance, and typology-specific training.
- Provide subject matter direction to global operations investigators on high risk typology matters.
- Surface systemic detection failures, including false negative exposure and scenario drift, and drive them to resolution with the accountable owners.
- External engagement
- Support law enforcement and FIU engagement, including responding to typology-focused and geographically focused legal process, preparing referral packages, and contributing to information sharing partnerships.
You Have:
- 7+ years in financial crime investigations, financial intelligence, law enforcement, or intelligence analysis, with substantial time on complex or proactive investigative work rather than alert disposition alone.
- Working depth in high risk typologies and the red flags associated with them, and the curiosity to go further.
- Demonstrated ability to build a case from ambiguous starting facts and document it defensibly.
- Hands-on data analysis capability. You write your own SQL and work independently in large data sets.
- Experience assessing the quality of other investigators' work and influencing how it improves without direct reporting authority.
- Strong OSINT and public records research skills.
- Clear, economical writing. You produce intelligence a senior stakeholder can act on without a walkthrough.
- Experience interacting with law enforcement or regulatory bodies, or handling legal process and information requests.
- Sound judgment and discretion with sensitive material.
Preferred Experience:
- Cross-border payments, money transmission, or remittance experience.
- Depth in one or more of: human trafficking and forced labor, sanctions evasion, terrorist financing, transnational fraud, professional money laundering.
- Blockchain analytics experience (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic).
- Experience using AI tooling to accelerate research, network analysis, or narrative production, and the judgment to know where it should not be relied on.
- Multi-jurisdictional exposure. Additional language capability relevant to Remitly corridors.
- CAMS, CFCS, CFE, or equivalent.
