About the Role
Remitly is seeking a Head of Internal Audit – APAC to lead our Global Audit & Assurance (GAA) coverage across the region. Based in Manila, this role owns Remitly's internal audit function for Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia.
You will lead a team of auditors and co-source resources to plan, deliver, and report risk-based audit engagements across Remitly's APAC-regulated entities. This is a people-leadership role with direct accountability for the APAC audit strategy and quality of output, and high visibility to regional Boards, Audit Committees, and regulators.
You Will:
- Own the internal audit assurance framework across Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia, including continuous monitoring and data-driven audit techniques.
- Build the annual audit plan across all four jurisdictions – audit universe, risk assessment, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Manage and develop a team of internal auditors, building regional audit capability.
- Lead audit engagements end-to-end across the region – scoping, fieldwork, findings, and reporting.
- Monitor remediation of audit recommendations and report status to Boards and oversight committees.
- Build relationships across Compliance, Legal, Risk, Operations, Product, and Engineering, plus regional regulators and Boards.
- Serve as the senior audit voice for APAC, embedding a strong control culture.
- Oversee co-source partner engagements across the region for quality and methodology alignment.
- Represent APAC priorities in global GAA initiatives – methodology, tooling, and AI-assisted audit techniques.
- Engage directly with entity Boards and regulators (e.g., JFSA, BSP, MAS, AUSTRAC/ASIC) on audit outcomes.
You Have
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk, or a related field.
- 7+ years in internal audit, compliance assurance, risk testing, or regulatory consulting in financial services, fintech, or payments, including people management.
- Experience with APAC regulatory frameworks (JFSA, BSP, MAS, AUSTRAC, or ASIC) for regulated financial services firms.
- Proven ability to lead the full audit lifecycle across multiple jurisdictions while managing a team and concurrent engagements.
- Experience building an audit universe and annual audit plan across multiple entities, with risk-based prioritization and budgeting.
- Strong understanding of AML/CFT, sanctions, consumer protection, and payment services regulation across APAC.
- Track record managing senior stakeholder, Board, and regulator relationships across jurisdictions.
- Strong people-leadership skills – building, coaching, and holding a team and co-source partners to standard.
- Comfort with data analytics and AI-assisted audit tools in workflows and decision-making.
- High ownership mindset – autonomous, with sound judgment in ambiguity and initiative without close direction.
- Strong communication skills, tailored from operational findings to Board-level reporting.
Nice to Have
- Experience with internal audit standards for licensed financial institutions in Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, or Australia.
- Familiarity with cross-border payments compliance – transaction monitoring, CDD, and sanctions screening.
- Experience managing co-source or outsourced audit arrangements across multiple markets.
- Certifications such as CIA, CRCM, CRMA, CISA, CAMS, or equivalent.
- Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake, Alteryx, or AI-assisted audit/continuous monitoring tools.
- Prior experience leading a regional or multi-country internal audit function.
