People Operations Intern

Managua, Nicaragua

Category: People Team
Job ID: R_107018
Job Type: Intern

Job Description:

Remitly is on a mission to transform the lives of immigrants and their families by providing the most trusted financial products and services on the planet. Since 2011, we have been tirelessly delivering on our promises to immigrants sending their hard-earned money home. We strive daily to meet our promise to our customers by building peace of mind into everything we do. Join our team with International presence across 8 offices who are growing their careers while having a positive impact on people globally.

Our global HR team is seeking a People Operations Intern for a 12-week internship to support our People function. Your first priority will be keeping People Ops records accurate, current, and easy to find, with every discrepancy fixed or assigned to an owner. You will support day-to-day administration across the employee lifecycle, including records and inventory audits, file organization, onboarding and offboarding administration, INSS slip collection, insurance enrollment follow-ups, and benefits documentation. You will report to a People Operations supervisor, meet weekly for a 30-minute check-in, and work with employees, managers, Payroll, and vendors. Approvals, policy decisions, and matters reserved for authorized People Ops staff are outside the scope of this role.

What You'll Do

  • Audit time-off balances (PTO, sick, and other leave) in the HRIS against approved requests and the accrual policy, flagging negative balances, unapproved absences, and missing entries.
  • Count office supply inventory, compare it with purchase records and the reorder list, and flag overstock, shortages, and unusual spend.
  • File employee, onboarding, and People Ops documents using an agreed naming convention; restructure the shared drive, archive outdated files, remove duplicates, publish a short guide, and shred old paperwork identified by People Ops.
  • Audit employee records in Workday for missing, inconsistent, or outdated fields (job titles, managers, locations, emergency contacts), reconcile them with onboarding documents and supporting records, correct authorized personal-data typos, and track remaining exceptions with an owner and status until resolved or escalated.
  • Follow up with employees, managers, and vendors on findings and missing documents, tracking each item to closure or escalation.
  • Remind managers before every payroll cutoff about pending time entries and absence approvals, using AI to support reminders and tracking (you cannot approve entries or absences).
  • Support onboarding: track inherited organization assignments and process transfers from hiring manager to trainer for each incoming wave, and correct personal-data typos in the Workday Onboarding Profile for AG report.
  • Print and staple contracts, Seguros América onboarding forms, and contract addenda; request beneficiary IDs; and schedule office visits for employees to sign addenda.
  • Collect INSS slips from the INSS Germán Pomares office, and support payroll payslip requests when assigned, only through the approved secure channel.
  • Deliver signed employment letters to former employees, hand over routine documents exchanged with the gestor, and route subsidy paperwork from the HR document box to People Ops.
  • Respond to routine employment verification emails within the authorized confirmation scope, and escalate requests for additional information.
  • Prepare files for employees missing life or medical insurance enrollment, deliver them to managers, and follow up on document delivery.
  • Support offboarding by following up on Benefit Card and medical insurance card returns, and, at Payroll's request, remind former employees to respond to their severance email.
  • Build a tracking system for physical and digital vendor agreements, and develop a benefits feedback system for People Ops to launch.
  • Maintain a tracker with owner, due date, and status; update it daily and send a short weekly status note.
  • Summarize findings and open items in Week 12 and document your processes, the vendor agreement register, and the feedback system for handoff.
  • Protect confidentiality at all times: keep sensitive records off personal devices, double-check recipients before sending or handing over documents, and report any misdirection immediately.
  • Know when to flag and escalate matters such as pay, leave, benefits, policy, employee relations, and severance questions to the responsible People Ops owner or Payroll.

Who You Are

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Highly detail-oriented, with a data-driven mindset; able to compare information across multiple sources to spot discrepancies and patterns
  • Organized and reliable, comfortable managing multiple tasks and follow-ups with limited day-to-day guidance
  • Trustworthy with confidential information, with sound judgment about what to handle and what to escalate
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with employees, managers, and vendors
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets and trackers; familiarity with an HRIS such as Workday is a plus
  • Willing to use AI tools to support reminders and tracking, within the company's approved data-handling practices
  • Available to work on-site for in-person tasks such as document handling and INSS slip collection
  • Enjoys contributing ideas that make processes simpler and more efficient
  • Strong alignment to our vision and values (https://www.remitly.com/us/en/home/values)
  • English proficient minimum B2
